FAQ Regarding our Trips

  • I haven’t traveled much, are these trips for experienced travelers only?

Not at all! We welcome travelers of all experience levels, from those who have visited dozens of countries to those taking their very first international trip. Your Travel Light host and local guides will be there to support you every step of the way. The most important thing is choosing a trip that matches your fitness level and making sure you're comfortable with the activities included.

  • Can I come solo on a Travel Light trip?

Absolutely! Around half of our guests join solo, so you'll be in great company. One of the best parts of our trips is the community that forms along the way. Many guests leave with lifelong friends, future travel buddies, and yes, we've even had a few meet their spouse on one of our trips!

  • How fit do I have to be to join a Travel Light trip?

The required fitness level depends on the trip. Every trip page includes a description of the physical demands, so be sure to read it carefully and choose one you're confident completing. If you're unsure whether a trip is the right fit, we're always happy to help you decide.

  • I have never been on a trekking trip before, can I join one?

Everyone has to start somewhere! Many of our guests join their first trekking adventure with us. If you're active, committed to training, and choose a trek that's appropriate for your experience level, we'd love to have you. Some of our more challenging treks do require previous trekking experience, so be sure to read the trip description carefully and reach out if you have any questions.

  • What’s included in the group trip price?

Every trip is a little different, but most include accommodations, a local guide, a Travel Light host, transportation during the trip, select meals, and the activities listed on the itinerary. International airfare, travel insurance, some meals, snacks, alcohol, and tips for local guides and drivers are typically not included. We usually include two meals per day, giving you the flexibility to explore local restaurants while keeping the itinerary moving.

  • Who are these trips for?

Our trips are for people who want more adventure, meaningful connections, and unforgettable experiences. Our guests come from a wide range of backgrounds, professions, and ages, but they all share a sense of curiosity and kindness. If you're flexible, respectful, open-minded, positive, and willing to step outside your comfort zone, you'll fit right in.

  • Is there an age limit?

Our trips are open to anyone 21 years of age or older. While most guests are between 35 and 55 years old, we've welcomed travelers both younger and older than that. We care far more about your attitude and ability to participate than your age.

  • Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?

We always do our best. Be sure to let us know about any dietary restrictions when you sign up so we can communicate them to our local partners. While we can't guarantee every request can be accommodated in every destination, we'll do everything we reasonably can.

  • What should I pack?

Every trip includes a custom packing list designed specifically for that destination and itinerary. If you're unsure about gear or clothing, we're always happy to answer questions and help you prepare!

  • What is the most appropriate type of luggage to bring?

We typically recommend bringing a backpack, as you'll often need to carry your own luggage on buses, trains, ferries, and up hotel staircases. Wheels don't always work well on cobblestone streets or uneven terrain. That said, some guests do bring suitcases without any issues, so it ultimately depends on the trip and your personal preference.

  • How big are the groups?

Our groups typically have 10 to 18 guests, though our sweet spot is 12 to 14 travelers, plus your Travel Light host and local guide. Keeping our groups small creates a more personal experience and allows everyone to get to know each other throughout the trip.

  • What is the cancellation policy?

Your deposit is refundable for seven (7) calendar days after booking, less any non-recoverable credit card processing fees. After seven days, your deposit becomes non-refundable.

If you cancel 91 days or more before departure, your deposit will be forfeited, but any additional payments will be refunded, less any non-refundable supplier costs and credit card processing fees.

If you cancel 90 days or less before departure, all payments are non-refundable and non-transferable. If you book within 90 days of departure, all payments made at the time of booking are immediately non-refundable.

Because of this, we strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance. If your cancellation is covered under your policy, you may be able to recover your trip costs through your insurance provider.

  • Is travel insurance required?

Travel insurance is strongly recommended. If you want "Cancel for Any Reason" coverage, many providers require you to purchase your policy within 7 to 21 days of making your initial trip deposit, so it's best to research your options soon after booking.

If you're looking for Cancel for Any Reason coverage, you may want to explore Battleface, Wanderwell, or Seven Corners. For standard travel insurance, World Nomads and SafetyWing are also popular options. We encourage you to do your own research, as we cannot recommend or guarantee any specific policy.

  • Can you help me plan my solo trip?

YES! We offer one-on-one zoom consultations to help you plan your trip. See our consultations page for details.
